Rural Capital Area (RCA) currently employs over 387,000 people in a diverse range of industries.

Employment in the Rural Capital Area grew 52% from 2015-2025, and all industry sectors grew. The fastest growing sectors during this period were Financial Activities (+105% growth), Construction (+93%), Professional and Business Services (+84%), and Information (+76%). These four sectors, as well as all the other sectors in the Rural Capital Area, grew much faster than the national rates.

Williamson County hosts the greatest number of jobs in the Rural Capital Area with 238,000 and 57% of regional employment. The next largest employment counties are Hays County with 24% of regional jobs and Bastrop County with 6%.

Employment increased in eight out of nine counties in the Rural Capital Area between 2015 and 2025. Hays County recorded the fastest employment growth in the region at 62%, followed by Williamson County at 58%, Bastrop County at 44%, and Blanco County at 39%.

Williamson County created the most new jobs over the 10-year period, followed by Hays, Bastrop, and Burnet counties.
